Ever wondered what it takes to be a catcher? Level II+ flyers can take Catch Lock classes and work on building up the strength and timing required to execute a swinging catch lock. It is even possible to build the necessary skills to catch a TSNY staff member in lines!
Students start by learning the fundamentals on the low catch trap; getting into and out of the catch lock while static, building and stopping your swing, and adjusting the height of your swing. Circuit training includes pull ups, rope climbing, leg strengthening, and core conditioning drills. Students who have achieved an out of lines swing on the flying trapeze (Level III+) and have developed a clean swinging catch lock (as determined by senior instructors) may be invited to swing in the high catch trap, and even catch a flyer.
We recommend fitted clothing that allows for a full range of motion.
